About Solan

Solan town is a district headquarters of the northern Indian hill station of Himachal Pradesh in India.

It is located 46 km south of the state capital Shimla and situated at an average elevation of 2,502 meters above from the sea level. The place is named after the Hindu goddess Shoolini Devi.

It is known as the “Mushroom city of India, because of the vast mushroom farming in the area as well as the Directorate of Mushroom Research (DMR) situated at Chambaghat.

Solan Tourist Places

Solan is a more low-key hill station ideal for travelers looking just some time away from city rush. A beautiful city in Himachal Pradesh, Solan has ancient temples and monasteries.

One of the most famous monasteries in this region is the Yundung Monastery, which must be visited by everyone travelling to Solan.

Broad Gage rail line available till Kalka and from Kalka to Solan narrow Gage (Toy Train) is finally connected till Shimla Railway station.
