About Palampur

Palampur is a hill station in northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. It is located at a height of 1472 meters above from the sea level. It is in the northwestern region of Himachal Pradesh and is only 40 km from the popular hill station of Dharamshala.

It is surrounded by pine forests and flanked by the Dhauladhar mountain ranges. The town derives its name from the local word Palum, mean lots of water. There are numerous streams flowing from the mountains to the plains from Palampur. The combination of greenery and water gives Palampur a distinctive look.

Palampur Tourist Places

Palampur is well known for its tea gardens like the Palampur Cooperative Tea Factory, which also processes the leaves. A waterfall drops into a stream at Bundla Chasm. Saurabh Van Vihar nature park has picnic spots, birdlife and views of the snow-capped Dhauladhar range. A forested trail leads northeast to hilltop Birni Devi Temple, with mountain views.

Approach

By Air – Spice Jet and Air India are operating daily flights from New Delhi to Kangra Airport (Gaggal Airport) which is just 40 km from Palampur.

By Train – Palampur is connected by the narrow gauge Kangra Valley Railway, Pathankot to Joginder Nagar. The railway station is named Palampur (Himachal). It is situated at Maranda, 4 km from Palampur bus stand.

By Road – Palampur is well connected by road to all major cities and towns in and around the state.
